Reading winger Garath McCleary has stepped up his return to first-team action.
The Jamaican winger has been out of action since February after breaking his ankle in the home defeat by Sheffield United.
But the 31-year-old made his first outing in a Reading shirt since the injury on Tuesday lunchtime when he played an hour of the U23s’ 1-1 friendly draw against Portsmouth.
The midfielder had hoped to avoid surgery on the ankle but was forced to have an operation on it at the beginning of June, delaying his return.
Boss Paul Clement has said he expects McCleary to be available for first-team selection by the end of the month .
Fellow long-term absentee Jordan Obita, meanwhile, has been out in America continuing his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury.
The left-back will not be back in action until October at the earliest, however.
