Derby County are being linked with a move for Everton defender Mason Holgate, as per a report by Derbyshire Live.
The 22-year-old has been told he can leave the Toffees on loan in the January transfer window to get some regular first-team football.
Holgate has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park under Marco Silva and has made just five appearances in the Premier League this season.
Championship side Derby could be set to offer him an escape route from Everton next month with the Rams lining up a loan swoop.
Frank Lampard’s side are currently 4th in the league and six points off the automatic promotion places. They are expected to be busy in January as they look to further bolster their ranks. The Rams are after some defensive reinforcements, hence the interest in Holgate.
The England Under-21 international started his career at Barnsley after joining them at the age of nine. He rose through the youth ranks at Oakwell and went onto play 22 times for their senior side.
Everton then snapped him up in August 2015 for a fee in the region of £2 million. He has since played just under 50 games for the Blues.
Holgate could do with going out on loan to a second tier side like Derby to prove Silva wrong and get some more experience under his belt. There is no point in him sitting on the side-lines in the Premier League and he needs to be playing regular matches.
