Newcastle have been linked with a move for Nuremberg midfielder Patrick Erras, with the Magpies potentially signing the German for as little as £5 million.
According to BILD, via the Newcastle Chronicle, Newcastle are interested in the midfielder, whose contract with the German side expires in the Summer of 2020.
Clubs from the Premier League and Bundesliga have already inquired into Erras, who is a longterm veteran of the Nuremberg team, having come through their youth setup and being a former ballboy at the team.
Newcastle are looking to improve in his position, with the Magpies not having a consistent option in the centre of the pitch.
With doubts about the futures of Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden and Mohamed Diame, Erras could be a good pickup in the middle.
Speaking about his future, Erras said:
My contract expires in 2020, of course leaving crosses your mind
I can confirm that clubs from the Premier League and the Bundesliga have already approached my advisor. But my first point of contact will always be the club.
Newcastle have been actively scouting in the German top flight, with Brazilian striker Joelinton also a potential target for the Magpies this Summer.
