Derby County striker ruled out of play-off final

The Rams will be without one of their attacking options when they take on Aston Villa at Wembley

Derby County striker David Nugent has ruled himself out of the Sky Bet Championship play-off final.

Nugent started the play-off semi-final first leg against Leeds United but a knee injury kept him out of the second leg at Elland Road on Wednesday night.

The 34-year-old was at the game and celebrated victory on the pitch with his Rams team-mates while sporting a brace on his left leg.

Nugent confirmed that he would not be fit for the final against Aston Villa at Wembley on Monday, May 27.

Asked if he would be available for selection, the former England international told RamsTV: “Nowhere near.

“I got a bit of a bad one in the first leg.

“But come Wembley, I will be there cheering on the lads. I can’t wait for it now.”

Nugent has made 38 appearances for the Rams this season, though only 15 of those have been starts. He has scored two goals.

The former Middlesbrough, Leicester, Portsmouth and Preston front man is out of contract in the summer.
