Celtic are reportedly set to make Callum McGregor one of their highest earners in order to tie him down to a new deal, and that would be excellent business by the Hoops if they do so.
According to a Football Insider exclusive, Celtic are set to offer McGregor a deal worth over £35,000-a-week which would reportedly see him become one of the highest-paid players at Parkhead.
So why would it be excellent business if they agree on terms with CalMac?
Making McGregor one of the highest earners at the club would not only be the reward he deserves for his consistent performances week in week out, but it also impacts his transfer market value.
Premier League clubs came knocking during this summer window, with Celtic reportedly rejecting a big-money deadline day bid from Leicester City, and interest is bound to be high once again in the future.
And having the midfielder on a high wage with a lengthy stay on his contract will, therefore, ensure Celtic receive the highest fee possible, should the likes of Leicester make a move again.
Offering him a new deal, therefore, makes perfect sense from a footballing point of view as well as a business point of view.
