Derby County are ‘unlikely’ to look into the free agent market despite a few injury concerns combined with their poor start to the season.
The Rams are just two points above the relegation zone at this early stage of the campaign and haven’t tasted victory in the league since the opening day success at Huddersfield. Meanwhile, a 3-0 loss in the League Cup to bitter rivals Nottingham Forest didn’t help boss Phillip Cocu.
Therefore, some fans are concerned at the situation right now, with injuries leaving the squad light in certain areas.
However, Derbyshire Live reporter Steve Nicholson has revealed that the Dutch coach has no immediate plans to search for out-of-contract players to bolster the squad.
“I have asked Phillip Cocu the question, and he suggested it is unlikely.
“I always think they are free agents for a reason and there is also the issue of when they last played and how much of a pre-season they had. If not much, then you have the issue of them having to play catch-up with their fitness, as we saw with Efe Ambrose, who was signed as a free agent last season and never kicked a ball for the first team.”
