Report: Newcastle contract talks with player stall; top club still interested

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Newcastle United’s talks with Sean Longstaff over a new contract at St James’ Park are not progressing well, in news that may well alert Manchester United.

The Mail reports that the Magpies are keen to tie Longstaff down to a six-year deal on Tyneside. The midfielder has been excellent since breaking into the first-team, and has now been joined in Steve Bruce’s side by his brother Matty.

However, it appears that getting the elder Longstaff brother to commit his future to Newcastle may be proving a little more problematic than the club would have expected.

The Daily Mail reports that discussions have stalled – and that may interest Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men as they continue to monitor the 21-year-old.

The report notes that Manchester United rejected the chance to pursue a deal for Longstaff in the summer after being told that he would cost £50 million. But they remain interested.
