The Bears sign free agent with the largest CFL-to-NFL deal

In demand CFL cornerback Tre Roberson has been bought by the Bears. Many critics considered him to to be the best CFL free agent. So, it is a big coup for the Bears in signing him.

Roberson wrote on his Twitter account:

“So blessed to be @ChicagoBears thank you for the opportunity in allowing me to help this organization get to the goal of winning a super bowl. Thank you to my agent for fighting hard for me through this whole process @camRONweiss @DynamicSportGrp #beardown”

Tre Robertson was the first true freshman to ever start at quarterback for Indiana University Bloomington. He played the 2014 and 2015 college football seasons with the Red Birds. However, he was undrafted out of Illinois State in 2016.

Having started as a quarterback, Tre Robertson switched to cornerback. He was with the Minnesota Vikings on and off and made their roster before the 2016 NFL preseason. In 2018, he signed with the Calgary Stampeders and he stayed at the team for the past 2 years. He appeared in 16 regular-season games and two postseason games for the team and made a name for himself at the team as a cornerback.

Over the course of two seasons in the CFL, the new Bears cornerback registered 95 tackles and 10 interceptions. His signing is the largest CFL-to-NFL deal after Cameron Wake transfer to the Miami Dolphins. Bears won the race among nine other NFL teams to sign Tre Roberson.
