If former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is appointed as the new Newcastle manager after their takeover, he will make Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho his major target this summer.
As the £300m of Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund goes through, Newcastle will look for an elite manager to lead the club to glory. Current manager Steve Bruce is likely to lose his job and rumours regarding Mauricio Pochettino replacing him have been circulating for a while now. Along with his signing, a number of high profile players are expected to be signed by the Magpies.
If such is the case, the former Tottenham manager will go for Coutinho as his statement signing for Newcastle, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo. The outlet claims:
Pochettino already tried last summer to sign Coutinho for Tottenham and if he did not succeed it was because of President Levy’s irreparable enmity with the Brazilian’s agent.
Now, without personal issues involved, Coutinho could reach a club for which, in recent months, [Antoine] Griezmann has also sounded.
The 27-year-old Brazilian playmaker is currently on loan at Bayern Munich from Barcelona, where he scored 9 goals in all competition.
