Everton are highly interested in signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Wendel, as such that the manager even went as far as calling the player over the phone, according to reports in Brazil.
Esporte News Mundo reported that Ancelotti proposed a five year deal for Wendel and explained about his plans at Everton.
However, a major stumbling block for the transfer of the 22-year-old midfielder is Ancelotti’s former club Napoli, who are also interested in the player. Furthermore, it is reported that the Italian side are even ready to pay higher fees for the player’s service. They see Wendell as a replacement of their midfielder Allan, who is also a transfer target for Everton. France Football reported last month that Everton are keeping tabs on the 29-year-old player.
Wendell is seen as a more attractive option for Everton as he is younger than Allan. However, with the sale of Bruno Fernandes in January, Sporting might not be ready to leave another of their midfielder very easily.
