It was reported that West Ham are in the race to sign going-to-be free-agent Ryan Fraser and current situations might play in their favour to sign the winger.
Ryan Fraser won’t be signing any contract extension with Bournemouth, which means that he will be free to leave in the coming days. As of May, only “Only Kevin De Bruyne (34) has created more clear-cut goalscoring opportunities than Fraser (33) since the start of the 2018/19 Premier League season” (Whoscored).
While Fraser might be looking to move to a big club, the financial uncertainties created by the pandemic could play in West Ham’s favour as pointed out by pundit Paul Merson. Speaking to The Daily Star, Merson said:
“Ryan Fraser might have missed the boat on getting a big move to a big club.
“Plenty of big teams wanted him last summer when he was playing well and tearing up the league, including Arsenal. But I don’t think he’s playing well enough now to justify a big move. I don’t think clubs will queing up to give him £100,000-a-week either.
“Everyone’s looking for free transfers and loans because their finances are taking a hit but if you want that kind of money you’ve got to be a bit special.
“Tottenham are well stocked for wingers. So are Arsenal. Liverpool and Manchester City aren’t going to take him. Chelsea? I can’t see it.
“And if you look a little below, who’s left? Everton? They have a few players who can play on the left and if it’s between him and Theo Walcott on the right I know who I’d want in my team and it isn’t Ryan Fraser.
“He feels like a player who doesn’t fit in a lot of teams because he’s an old-school winger and not many clubs play with one of those any more.”
Given his age (26 years) and talent, Fraser would be a big coup for the Hammers.
